Barefoot at the farmers market

Image
a carefree barefoot lifestyle in paradise hawaii by sharleen wl i wake up this morning as the sun shines through my bedroom window and i hear the birds chirping. its satrurday and i don't have to work. i've been wanting to go to our town's farmers market which i don't get to do very often and today seems like a perfect day. so i walk to the bathroom to quickly brush my teeth and wash my face. i don't even comb or brush my hair cuz hey, its the weekend and i kinda like the messy hair look. after putting on a pair of shorts, a crop top and my nerdy glasses i step out of my apartment. barefoot of course. yep, messy hair, nerdy glasses and bare feet. what a great combination lol. there's a lot of big trees in my apartment complex and alot of birds which i enjoy watching. with that many birds there's quite a bit of shit on the ground which i likely step on but i don't really care. its all part of being in nature and living the barefoot lifestyle. its a sunny

Going barefoot is gross

Image
by sharleen wl 'going barefoot is gross!' that's what i often hear from people when they first learn about my barefoot lifestyle or see me walking around in dirty bare feet. i don't only hear this from strangers but even some of my friends say it on occasion. in the beginning i would be embarrassed and would be somewhat reluctant to go barefoot in public. but at this point i no longer care. in fact i wear it as a badge of honor. i'm a free spirit, i live life the way i like it and don't worry about what other people say. gotta admit, personal hygiene isn't always my top priority (you may have already known this from many of my posts haha!). so i may be gross but i'm healthy and i live a fun and happy life and to me that's all that matters. so for fun i decided to experiment with ai. the following was written by chat gpt. ya, you can tell it wasn't written by me cuz the grammer and spelling are perfect lol. but don't worry it won't replac

Barefoot in the haunted woods at night

Image
by sharleen wl this is actually the last part of the barefoot staycation series. the title "barefoot in the haunted woods at night" refers to the woods behind my apartment complex where i spent most of the day barefoot the first day of my staycation but didn't want to be there after dark since it's rumored to be haunted. did i finally do it? you'll find out soon. but before we get started... just a little note about aiden the restaurant manager. he left the next morning (tuesday) at around 10:30 and went straight to the restaurant which opens at 11 am after having a fun night in my apartment ;). the following days were pretty much uneventful. nothing super interesting. i mean they were exciting as i got to go barefoot the entire time but i don't want to keep telling you similar things and bore you to tears lol. fast forward to saturday. i spent the whole day with my sister tania who came to visit me and we went shopping and had dinner together. of course she w

Fun barefoot day around town

Image
barefoot staycation day 2 by sharleen wl it's monday morning, the second day of my barefoot staycation. rays of sunlight filters through my bedroom window and the birds are chirping outside. i stretch my arms and legs, feeling the cool breeze that comes in from the open window. ya, like many dwelling places in hawaii my apartment isn't air-conditioned. we don't need it that much cuz the trade wind blows almost constantly. occasionally it stops blowing and the air becomes sticky but that's only like a couple of weeks in a year. i look at my dirty soles and giggle as they're a sign of living a fun and free barefoot lifestyle. yesterday was quite enjoyable and today more exciting adventures await. but...there's something i need to do before i even start the day. last night i was too tired and this morning i feel a strong urge to do it. noo, i'm not talking about washing the dishes 🤣. hint - not wearing anything in bed really makes it easy 😉 ok no

Barefoot staycation

Image
by sharleen wl i recently took a week's vacation. it was a staycation to be exact because well, i live in hawaii. people come here for vacation so why should i go anywhere else? lol. that meant it was going to be a full week being completely barefoot. as i previously mentioned, my current job as a cashier at a restaurant doesn't allow me to be barefoot at work. i can wear flip flops (or rubber slippers as they call them here) which is cool as i despise closed shoes but still, it ain't the same as being barefoot. if you've been following my blog for a while you know that i'm a rebellious barefoot girl who refuses to wear shoes no matter the weather or occasion. i just love the feeling of the earth beneath my feet and the freedom that comes with being shoeless. so a whole day spent in bare feet is always an adventure. it never gets old. i usually have sunday and monday off which i always look forward to and now i'll literally be barefoot 24/7. it'll be a magic

Why do you go barefoot?

Image
by sharleen wl a while ago someone asked a question on the reddit barefoot sub: "why do you go barefoot?" the following was my answer: "i love the feeling of walking barefoot on different surfaces. from soft dirt and mud squishing between my toes to grass covered in morning dew to the cool floors of a supermarket on a warm summer day. it also allows me to better connect with nature and the world around me. going barefoot also gives me the sense of freedom of not having my feet cooped up in restrictive socks and shoes which make them hot and sweaty. ngl, in my case there's also the rebellious factor. i'm a free spirit who enjoys breaking norms, and going barefoot and getting my feet all dirty is one way to do it." now let me elaborate on this a little. my love for going barefoot began when i was just a toddler and refused to keep my shoes on no matter how hard my parents (especially my mom) tried which drove them nuts. i would often get yelled at and sometime

You can't be in here barefoot!

by sharleen wl as many of you know hawaii is quite a barefoot friendly place especially the small towns where life is even more laid back than in big cities like honolulu. going barefoot in public is well tolerated for the most part and you'll likely see at least a barefooter or two out and about on any given day. i know its not as many as in new zealand or australia but still more than in most other places in the u.s. very rarely do you see the 'no shoes no service' sign that's abundant on the mainland. but like anything else there's exceptions. i have been kicked out of places of business for being barefoot. i've never written anything about it so far cuz i don't like to focus on the negative. but today i decided to write about my recent experience cuz its actually kinda 'interesting' and just to show you that its not always a bed of roses in paradise. its 11 o'clock sunday morning. i open my eyes to the bright sun shining through my bedroom wi
